Pinheiros is a neighborhood undergoing profound transformation.
The recent change in the zoning of the city of São Paulo created densification zones next to transport infrastructure, which promoted an important turnaround in a strip of the neighborhood that was still little built up and dense. As a result, we see a large number of new buildings that will bring more people to the region. Although these developments are accompanied by wider sidewalks, active facades, and mixed use, Pinheiros is a neighborhood poor in qualified public spaces.
To supply some of this demand, Igarapés Square is a space that, although private, is generously open for public use. It is a passage through the core of a block, providing passage between 2 streets and opening a view to a third street, whose access is forbidden by legislation. The narrow accesses guide the user's gaze and path to a wide area that opens up in the center of the block: organized on two levels, it allows for public and private events, in addition to being a space for daily use for neighbors.
A large plan of pigmented concrete envelops the perimeter between the square and the adjacent buildings, and large corten steel pergolas with suspended planters complement the trees in the reflecting pool on the main level and the lower level.
